Oana Gheorghiu says that, following the dismissal of the government, the interim executive has begun operating with considerably limited powers, at a time when Romania is facing significant economic and social pressures.
According to her, pressure related to the NRRP is constant, while several government decisions have been challenged and annulled in court. The situation is further complicated by trade union protests and the energy crisis, Gheorghiu says.
In this context, Oana Gheorghiu says that a PSD-AUR alliance is already functioning. Her statement comes amid the political deadlock and the limited ability of the interim government to adopt measures with a major impact.
Gheorghiu also criticizes the way public resources are managed. She says that money wasted in public institutions and state-owned companies, improperly awarded contracts, sinecures, and state assets that are either not being put to use or are being used in the interests of narrow groups are problems that directly affect the functioning of the administration.
The quoted statement concludes as Oana Gheorghiu explains the effects of these practices on the state and on the authorities’ ability to respond to crises.
