Deputy Prime Minister Oana Gheorghiu accused PSD on Tuesday, September 22, of prolonging the political crisis and blocking the formation of a government with full powers. The reaction came after the Social Democrats announced that they would not vote for an Executive led by designated Prime Minister Siegfried Mureșan.
“PSD is playing poker with the country’s fate,” Oana Gheorghiu wrote on Facebook, arguing that the party is sending contradictory messages and pursuing a return to power rather than reform. The deputy prime minister said that the reform measures would affect privileges and the mechanisms through which public funds are spent.
Gheorghiu explained that reform means closing the “faucets” through which public funds are siphoned off, eliminating sinecures, and requiring state-owned companies to work in the interests of citizens. She warned that every day of deadlock affects the population and called for the formation of a government that works for citizens.
The day before, PSD leader Sorin Grindeanu had asked Mureșan to resign his mandate. PSD said it could discuss the matter with the designated prime minister only if the governing program included the ten proposals adopted by the party in Sinaia. Otherwise, the Social Democrats would maintain their decision not to vote for the Cabinet.
