Oana Gheorghiu, interim deputy prime minister and president of PNL Sector 4, criticized on Monday, September 21, the PSD’s decision not to vote to approve a government led by Siegfried Mureșan. The Social Democrats asked the candidate for the position of prime minister to withdraw his candidacy, arguing that they could not support a “Bolojan 2.0.”
In a message posted on Facebook, Gheorghiu accused the PSD of successively changing its political position in order to pursue its interests and prolong the government crisis. She listed the Social Democrats’ statements from recent months: leaving the government because of Ilie Bolojan, accepting the continuation of the government with another PNL prime minister, criticizing Bolojan and, subsequently, rejecting Siegfried Mureșan.
The interim deputy prime minister claimed that the PSD is unwilling to support a government that promotes “real” reforms of the state and the elimination of privileges. She told lawmakers that they must vote in the interests of citizens, not parties.
Gheorghiu also stated that Romania urgently needs a stable government, after five months of political crisis, and brought early elections back into discussion. According to her, if the current Parliament cannot form a functioning majority, a new legislature must be elected.
