Iranian authorities welcomed on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, the Democrats’ victory in the U.S. midterm elections during Donald Trump’s presidency, after the party secured a majority in both the Senate and the House of Representatives. Tehran claims that voters rejected the war launched by President Donald Trump, amid rising gasoline prices and the cost of living.
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf said that Americans had said “no to war” and called on Washington to take into account the message conveyed by the vote. Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, however, stated that U.S. hostility would continue regardless of which party was in power. “The United States believes that the end of its hegemony is far away. We believe it is near,” he said.
The Democrats’ victory was achieved even in Republican strongholds, and Donald Trump acknowledged that the war waged by the U.S. and Israel against Iran had contributed to his party’s defeat. Despite the messages from Tehran, Iran remains on alert, fearing that the American president could order new attacks to offset the electoral losses.
The conflict has entered its ninth month, while mediators are attempting to prevent hostilities from resuming. Tensions were heightened by the anniversary of the occupation of the U.S. embassy in Tehran in 1979, an event commemorated by the Iranian press through criticism of Washington.
