U.S. President Donald Trump warned Democrats on Wednesday that they would face serious political consequences if they initiated impeachment proceedings against him after taking control of Congress at the beginning of 2027.
The statement came after the Republican Party’s severe defeat in the midterm elections. Asked about the possibility of Democrats launching impeachment proceedings, Trump said such a decision would “destroy” the Democratic Party. The U.S. president added that there was “no reason” to remove him from office.
Trump also rejected the possibility of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth being dismissed, saying that he was doing “a very good job.” The president blamed the Republicans’ electoral defeat on the war in Iran.
In his first television appearance following the election results, Trump also spoke about his projects in Washington. He praised the ballroom he is building at the White House, saying it would be “the most beautiful in the world.” Among the plans he mentioned were the construction of a triumphal arch and the renovation of an old golf course in the U.S. capital.
