President Donald Trump acknowledged that the Republican Party faces an extremely difficult task in maintaining its majority in the House of Representatives and the Senate in the midterm elections scheduled for November 3. The statement was made ahead of a series of campaign rallies in Alaska, Nevada, Arizona and Montana.
Asked whether Republicans were at greater risk of losing control of the House of Representatives or the Senate, Trump replied that the situation was similar in both chambers. He stressed that midterm elections are traditionally unfavorable to the party of the incumbent president.
The president said he was campaigning intensively and that enthusiasm for Republicans was growing. However, voters’ dissatisfaction with rising prices, particularly gasoline prices, is favoring the Democratic opposition.
According to Decision Desk HQ projections, Democrats have a 56% chance of taking control of the Senate, with a majority of 51 of the 100 seats, and a 77% chance of winning the House of Representatives, where all 435 seats are up for election.
Losing even one chamber would limit Trump’s legislative agenda and allow Democrats to launch congressional investigations into him and his associates.
