Donald Trump said in an interview with Fox News that Republicans will retain their majorities in the House of Representatives and the Senate, although polls indicate a possible Democratic victory in the House of Representatives. The statement was made ahead of the U.S. legislative elections, considered a major electoral test for the administration in Washington.
More than 250 million Americans are expected to go to the polls, while approximately 56 million have already voted early. The elections will determine all seats in the House of Representatives and 35 of the Senate’s 100 seats.
Republicans currently control both chambers of Congress, but their majorities are fragile. According to polls, Democrats have a chance to take control of the House of Representatives, while the outcome in the Senate remains uncertain. Losing control of either chamber would change the balance of power and could allow Congress to block the president’s initiatives and launch investigations into his administration.
Trump also claimed that the United States is “the most respected country in the world” and described Europe’s situation in stark terms, saying that “everything is collapsing there.” The first significant results are expected early Wednesday morning.
