In an interview with RTL Hungary, Prime Minister Péter Magyar announced that his gross monthly salary will be approximately 3.8 million forints, equivalent to about 10,500 euros, an amount more than two times lower than the income of former Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. The Hungarian government intends to implement salary cuts for other officials as well, limiting the additional expenses reimbursed to parliamentarians for fuel, accommodation, or employees, from 7 million forints to less than 5 million forints. These measures could generate savings of approximately 50 billion forints, equivalent to about 139 million euros. Magyar justified the decision by the significant difference between the incomes of politicians and those of the population, with the average gross salary in Hungary being around 640,000 forints. This electoral victory for Magyar is considered a major change in the Hungarian political landscape, marking a break from former leader Viktor Orbán and the Fidesz party.
