The Glacier Monitoring Service of Switzerland (GLAMOS) has announced that accumulated snow and ice in the Swiss Alps has already melted, reaching "Glacier Loss Day" earlier than usual. This is worrying news for Switzerland's 1,400 glaciers, which are shrinking rapidly. GLAMOS director Matthias Huss emphasized that any further melting before October will contribute to the shrinking glaciers, exacerbating the impact of climate change.
