In July, the average temperature at the ocean surface reached a historic record, exceeding 20 degrees Celsius, according to the European Climate Change Service Copernicus. This is the hottest July ever recorded, with an average of 20.96 degrees, surpassing the previous record of 20.89 degrees.

Marine heatwaves severely affect ecosystems, with record temperatures in the North Sea and around the Spanish coast, where 33.02 degrees Celsius was recorded. Climate change has led to the migration of marine species to cooler waters, affecting biodiversity. The oceans, which absorb over 90% of the heat generated by human activities, are losing their ability to stabilize the terrestrial climate, resulting in extreme weather phenomena.

Without a significant reduction in carbon emissions, temperature records will continue to be broken, with devastating consequences for the environment and communities.
