Germany has implemented a new law regarding military service that requires men aged between 17 and 45 to obtain approval from the German Armed Forces for any travel abroad that exceeds three months. This regulation, which came into effect on January 1, is part of efforts to modernize military service, aiming to recruit an additional 80,000 active soldiers beyond the existing ones. The Federal Ministry of Defense has confirmed the information, stating that approval will be considered granted as long as military service remains voluntary. The new law also includes a mandatory recruitment examination for young people born in 2008 and later. The Ministry's spokesperson explained that the purpose of these measures is to have a clear record of those who are abroad in case of emergency. Although the regulation has been applied in the past, especially during the Cold War, it has not been practically relevant recently. The Ministry is working on specific regulations to facilitate the approval process for travels, avoiding unnecessary bureaucracy.
