The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, announced the reintroduction of mandatory military service starting in March 2027, targeting men up to the age of 30. This decision marks a significant change, considering that Serbia transitioned to a fully professional army in 2011, suspending mandatory military service.

The new form of service will last 75 days and will be implemented after the completion of the necessary administrative procedures. The announcement was made in the context of a military technical presentation, highlighting a broader trend in Europe, where countries are reevaluating their defense strategies in light of geopolitical instability, such as Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Germany is also considering reintroducing mandatory military service to strengthen its military forces, in the context of recruitment difficulties. Decisions in these countries reflect a growing concern for security in the face of international challenges.
