The Ministry of National Defence warns that new disinformation is circulating through messaging apps following the distribution of an alleged emergency conscription notice addressed to a young man. The fake document was purportedly issued by the Ilfov County Military Centre and would summon the person named on 20 October 2026 to complete conscription formalities in the Romanian Army.
The Ministry of National Defence states that the document has no legal basis and does not reflect a real situation. The ministry emphasizes that no conscription is taking place in Romania and that compulsory military service in peacetime was suspended as of 1 January 2007, under Law 395/2005. The Romanian Army operates on a voluntary basis.
According to the Ministry of National Defence, the fake document emerged in the context of the MOBEX B-IF-26 exercise, organized in Bucharest Municipality and Ilfov County. The exercise aims to assess the mobilization reserve and is currently underway, but does not entail the reintroduction of compulsory conscription. The ministry recommends that citizens verify information through official sources and refrain from distributing unverified documents.
