The Ministry of National Defence denies claims that young people are to be conscripted into the Romanian Army and warns of a disinformation campaign distributed on social media.
A fake document presented as a “Notice Regarding Conscription” and attributed to the Ilfov County Military Center claims that a young man born after 2000 would be summoned on October 20, 2026, for conscription formalities. The Ministry of National Defence states that the document has no legal basis and is unrelated to any real situation.
The fake document emerged in the context of the routine MOBEX B-IF-26 exercise, held in Bucharest and Ilfov County. The ministry emphasizes that the exercise exclusively concerns military reservists already registered with military centers—namely, people who have completed military service or opted for volunteer reservist status. It does not involve calling up, conscripting, or training young people without military training.
Mandatory military service in peacetime has been suspended in Romania since January 1, 2007. Recruitment and conscription may take place only in the event of war, mobilization, or a state of siege.
The authorities recommend checking information only through the Ministry of National Defence’s official channels and reporting fabricated documents, without redistributing alarmist materials.
