Next week, the Romanian Army will call up approximately 10,000 military reservists from Bucharest and Ilfov as part of an exercise organized by the Ministry of National Defence to assess mobilization capacity and update military records.
The reservists concerned are people who completed their military service before it ceased to be compulsory in 2007. The youngest participant is 43, while the upper age limit is 63.
During the first two days of the exercise, Monday and Tuesday, police officers will deliver the call-up orders to the reservists’ homes. Those who receive them must report to the military unit within 24 hours.
Training activities are scheduled for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The reservists will receive equipment and weapons and will take part in live-fire exercises at a firing range. Their transport costs will be reimbursed, and participants will receive a hot meal.
The exercise does not represent a mobilization for a conflict, but aims to establish how many reservists the army can rely on in the event of a crisis. Following the checks, the Ministry of Defence’s records may also be updated to include people who are no longer fit for combat.
