The Polish government will call up more than 300,000 reservists and recruits in 2027 for evaluation and military training

The Polish government plans to call up more than 300,000 reservists and recruits in 2027, according to a draft from the Ministry of Defence made public on Thursday. The measure aims to assess their capabilities and assign them to military units in the event of mobilization.

The plan provides for 20,000 new positions in professional military service, 6,500 more than the previous year, as well as the call-up of 200,000 reservists and 83,700 members of auxiliary corps. The campaign, one of the largest in recent years, targets men and women up to the age of 60.

Those summoned to recruitment centers will undergo physical assessments and evaluations of their military knowledge, after which they will be provisionally assigned to military corps. Some reservists may take part in training sessions lasting up to 90 days. Unjustified failure to appear or refusal to comply with the call-up may be punishable by a fine or being brought in by police.

Warsaw is strengthening its army following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Polish forces already number more than 220,000 troops, compared with 130,000 before the war. The goal is to reach 300,000 active-duty troops and 500,000 including reservists by 2039. Defence spending is estimated at 4.5% of GDP in 2027.
