The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova has issued a warning for citizens intending to travel to the Russian Federation, signaling an increase in border controls. Moldovans, especially men aged between 18 and 60, are targeted, particularly those with recent passports or who have traveled to Ukraine.

Controls can last between three and 12 hours, and individuals may be subjected to temporary document retention, questioning, requests to sign personal data processing agreements, and access to electronic devices. Refusal to sign may lead to entry bans into Russia.

There have also been reported cases where Moldovans in detention have been pressured to sign contracts for enrollment in the Russian army. The Ministry recommends that citizens assess the necessity of traveling to Russia and inform themselves about entry conditions. Those facing difficulties are encouraged to contact the diplomatic mission of Moldova in Russia. Travel warnings had been issued earlier in the context of tensions arising from the war in Ukraine.
