The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has warned airlines about a "potentially dangerous situation" during flights over Venezuela, highlighting the worsening security and increased military activity in the area. The FAA mentioned that threats could affect aircraft at all altitudes, in the context of the concentration of American military forces in the region. Although direct flights to Venezuela have been suspended since 2019, some American airlines continue to fly over the country. The FAA has required companies to inform 72 hours in advance about planned flights, but has not banned flights.
The agency also reported an increase in satellite navigation system interference and emphasized that the Venezuelan military has advanced fighter jets and defense systems capable of reaching the altitudes of civilian aircraft, which poses a significant risk. The FAA will continue to monitor the situation to protect American civil aviation.
