The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, discussed on Tuesday evening the risks associated with crossing Russian airspace, warning airlines that this airspace is becoming increasingly dangerous due to the ongoing war. Zelensky stated that, although civil aviation is not directly targeted, the intensification of Russian airstrikes on Ukraine has effectively closed Russian airspace.
In recent weeks, Russia has intensified attacks on Ukrainian cities, including Kyiv, causing casualties and destruction. In response, Ukraine has carried out drone strikes on Russian targets, including in the oil sector. Zelensky asserted that Russia is changing its tactics and that its aggression has turned the airspace of Ukraine and Russia into a dangerous environment. He promised that Ukraine would comply with the requests of international partners to suspend attacks, but warned that drones would continue to operate in Russian airspace as long as the war continues.
