Premier League clubs have set a new record: $4.7 billion spent during the transfer window

Premier League clubs spent approximately $4.7 billion during the transfer window that ended on Tuesday, surpassing the combined amount invested by teams from Europe’s other four top leagues. According to Transfermarkt, clubs from Spain, Italy, Germany and France spent a combined $3.8 billion.

England’s record was cemented in the final hours of the transfer window, when Manchester City signed Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea for £125 million, equivalent to $169 million. The fee matches the British record set by Alexander Isak’s transfer to Liverpool.

Manchester City invested more than $600 million this summer, the largest amount ever spent by a club during a single transfer window. Approximately $440 million was allocated to midfielders, including Elliot Anderson and Ayyoub Bouaddi. The club also paid $81 million for winger Iliman Ndiaye.

Chelsea and Tottenham each surpassed the $400 million mark. The financial strength of English clubs is supported by broadcast-rights revenue and financial rules that allow high-revenue teams to invest more. The Premier League therefore surpassed its own record of $4.25 billion, set in 2025.
