Manchester United has begun selling pieces of turf from Old Trafford for £125, on the same day the club announced that its total debt remains above £1 billion. The first batch of souvenirs sold out quickly.
The initiative comes after the stadium pitch was excavated for the first time in 14 years and removed down to the foundation. Several sections of turf were preserved, and the pieces, measuring approximately 7x7 centimetres, were placed in glass cubes displayed in a black case.
The club describes the items as mementoes of important matches played at home and says they keep the atmosphere of match days alive.
The sale is taking place against a backdrop of financial difficulty. Manchester United reported record revenue of £677.6 million and an operating profit of £22.6 million for 2025-2026, but recorded a pre-tax loss of £43 million.
At the same time, the club spent £63.5 million acquiring the land intended for the new stadium, whose total cost is estimated at more than £2 billion.
