Manchester United were eliminated from the English League Cup on Wednesday after losing 3-2 to Brighton at Old Trafford. The home team made an excellent start and led 2-0 after just 10 minutes, through goals scored by Shea Lacey in the 8th minute and Mason Mount in the 10th minute.
Brighton reduced the deficit before halftime, with Charalampos Kostoulas scoring in first-half stoppage time, in the 45+1st minute. The visitors made a decisive comeback after the break: Pascal Gross equalized in the 65th minute, and Maxim De Cuyper scored the winning goal four minutes later.
The result represents Manchester United's third defeat of the season and their second in a row, following Sunday's loss against rivals Manchester City. At the end of the match, the supporters at Old Trafford booed their team.
The elimination is all the more significant as Manchester United are exiting the competition at an early stage for the second consecutive season.
