The Danish Foreign Minister, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, emphasized that the United States should not intervene in Greenland, reaffirming Denmark's position regarding former President Donald Trump's desire to purchase the Arctic island. During a meeting with the new American ambassador to Denmark, Ken Howery, Rasmussen confirmed that he conveyed this message, stating that the U.S. must respect Greenland's sovereignty.
Although Trump expressed interest in buying Greenland, Denmark reiterated that the island is not for sale. Greenland is an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark, and most residents prefer to remain part of Denmark, according to a survey from January. Rasmussen, a former Prime Minister of Denmark, highlighted the importance of the American ambassador's presence in the context of bilateral relations.
