The Czech Republic also proposes to increase energy independence by doubling nuclear capacity, approving the construction of two new reactors at the Dukovany power plant in the south of the country. Each reactor will have a capacity of over 1,000 megawatts, which would allow the Czech Republic to also double national production and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
The project, estimated at over 20 billion euros, will be carried out by a South Korean company, and by 2050, the Czech Republic intends for nuclear energy to cover 60% of national consumption. However, the plan is contested due to high costs and the lack of a final repository for spent fuel, and Austria expresses concern about nuclear expansion in the region.
