The Mayor of Budapest, Gergely Karácsony, stated that the rooftops of buildings in the Hungarian capital could generate a volume of solar energy equivalent to two and a half times the production of the nuclear power plant in Paks.

He emphasized that no community can tackle the challenges of climate change alone and called on the government to create the necessary regulatory frameworks for implementing energy solutions. Karácsony mentioned that the private sector and citizens must actively participate in these changes. The government's new energy development plan, which includes the integration of solar energy, aligns with this vision.

Budapest has developed a 'solar map' and launched the 'Powered by the Sun' program, aiming to install 10 million square meters of solar panels, which would reduce carbon dioxide emissions by nearly 500,000 tons. The mayor highlighted the importance of the partnership between the city and the government to turn these plans into reality.
