George Simion, on the involvement of some AUR members in the violence in Victory Square: "As far as I know, no. Do you know something else? Well, is it bad to participate in protests?”

Asked on Wednesday at Parliament whether AUR members had been involved in the violence at the farmers’ protest in Bucharest, Simion replied: "As far as I know, no. Do you know something else?"

The reaction comes after the protest organized against the increase in fuel prices and the export restrictions imposed by the Government in the context of the smallpox epidemic. Simion rejected the association of AUR participants with the violence and criticized what he considered an attempt to blame those who had attended the demonstration.

“Isn’t it normal for people to take part in protests?” the AUR leader said when asked about the presence of the party’s parliamentarians in Victory Square. He argued that the incidents should be investigated criminally and asked whether participation in protests should be prohibited.

Among the AUR members at the scene was also MP Gianina Șerban, whom law enforcement officers allegedly did not allow access among the protesters. Following the demonstration, 47 people were taken to the police station, while 10 gendarmes were injured and received medical care.
