An employee of the city of Kempten, Germany, is accused of stealing at least 1 million euros from parking meters, along with his wife, who is accused of complicity. Both were arrested after a bank reported suspicions of money laundering, related to repeated cash deposits in bank accounts accessible to the wife. Investigators discovered that the man had stolen coins from parking meters in 720 cases. The mayor of the city, Thomas Kiechle, expressed shock at the accusations and announced that he would support the investigation, taking measures to review internal working processes. Authorities conducted searches at the town hall as part of the investigation.
