China reacted on Monday to the statements of American President Donald Trump, who claimed that the U.S. would acquire Greenland "one way or another." The spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mao Ning, emphasized that concerns related to the Arctic should focus on the interests of the international community, not on the individual ambitions of certain states. Mao Ning stated that China's activities in the Arctic aim to promote peace and stability in the region.
Trump reiterated that the U.S. must act to prevent Russia or China from taking over Greenland, highlighting the strategic importance of the island. These claims were rejected by the Danish government, with Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen warning that such an action could affect the NATO alliance. Greenland, part of Denmark, has a semi-autonomous status and an economy dependent on Danish financial support.
