Brad Cooper, the head of the American military command for the Middle East (CENTCOM), has urged Hamas to stop the summary executions of Palestinians suspected of collaborating with Israel, after the group released a video recording of such acts. Cooper emphasized that this is a historic opportunity for peace and urged Hamas to respect President Trump's peace plan and to disarm.
Since the recent ceasefire, there have been intense clashes in Gaza, and Hamas has launched a campaign of reprisals against those suspected of collaborating with Israel, including public executions. The Doghmush clan, accused of loyalty to Israel, has been targeted by Hamas's security forces, which have arrested dozens of members. In this context, Hamas announced a "general amnesty period" for gang members who have not committed crimes, in an attempt to ease internal tensions.
