BYD has decided to postpone the start of mass production at its plant in Hungary to 2026, where it will run below capacity in the early years. Instead, the company will ramp up production at its plant in Turkey, where labor costs are lower, exceeding initial plans. The move is disadvantageous for the European Union, which had hoped to attract Chinese investment in the auto sector. The plant in Hungary, with a planned capacity of 300,000 vehicles a year, will start with just tens of thousands of units in 2026.
