The Gendarmerie escorted 47 people to police stations who allegedly committed antisocial acts during the farmers’ protest held on Tuesday in Victory Square in Bucharest. The legal measures will be determined after the situation of each person has been clarified.

According to the authorities, the demonstration, organized by several thousand farmers dissatisfied with the situation in agriculture and animal husbandry, was marked by violence and clashes between some protesters and law enforcement officers. So far, 15 administrative penalties have been imposed, totaling 21,500 lei.

Following the incidents, ten gendarmes were injured, and four of them were transported to hospital for medical care. Two Gendarmerie vehicles were damaged.

The authorities are analyzing operational footage and recordings published in the public domain to identify other people who may have committed illegal acts. The Gendarmerie and the Ministry of Internal Affairs condemned the violence, emphasizing that the right to freedom of expression must be exercised in compliance with the law, public order, and public safety. Law enforcement officers maintain that they intervened selectively after attempting to defuse the situation through preventive measures.

After today’s clash between the gendarmes and the farmers, as darkness fell, the shepherds spread out their blankets and sheepskin coats to use as makeshift beds and went to sleep under the open sky of the capital.
