Farmers’ protest held on Tuesday in Bucharest’s Victory Square has ended, but the structures of the Ministry of Internal Affairs continue their checks “to identify and sanction those who violated the law.” By Wednesday, six people had been detained, while 47 had been taken to police stations for checks and documentation of the facts, according to the Bucharest Gendarmerie.

Following the interventions of police officers and gendarmes, three criminal case files were opened for assaulting a public official, disturbing public order and peace, public incitement, destruction, and carrying or using dangerous objects. In addition, 24 contravention sanctions were imposed, totaling 46,000 lei.

The protest was marked by acts of violence and incidents between demonstrators and the security forces. The Bucharest Gendarmerie did not rule out that infiltrators or instigators seeking to provoke disorder may have been among the participants.

Medical crews provided assistance to 32 people who complained of feeling unwell, faintness, dizziness, or chest pain. Nine of them were transported to medical facilities.

The investigation continues under the coordination of the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Bucharest Tribunal. The Gendarmerie stated that the right to protest is respected, but it cannot justify violence, destruction, assaults against the security forces, or other violations of the law.
