Five more people were detained for 24 hours following incidents that occurred Tuesday at the protest in Victory Square and are due to be brought before the court with legal proposals, the Bucharest Gendarmerie announced Thursday.

Following activities carried out by police officers and gendarmes, 55 people were taken to police unit headquarters. In addition, 33 administrative fines were issued, totaling 66,800 lei.

On the criminal side, one person was placed in preventive custody, while four other men were placed under house arrest. The new detentions bring to ten the number of people against whom preventive or custodial measures have been ordered in this case.

The activities are being carried out by the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Bucharest Tribunal, together with police officers from the Violent Criminal Groups Service and the Criminal Investigations Service.

Checks are continuing to identify and sanction those who allegedly provoked law enforcement forces, exerted pressure on the gendarmes’ formation, or incited violence.
