The Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar issued a firm warning to companies in the electric vehicle battery industry, emphasizing that units that do not comply with environmental standards will be shut down. This measure marks a significant shift from the policy of former Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who promoted the rapid development of this sector.

Hungary has become an important center for battery production, attracting investments of approximately 26 billion euros. However, the rapid expansion of factories has raised concerns about the impact on the environment and public health. The Minister of Environment, Laszlo Gajdos, stated that it is necessary to restore the balance between industrial development and environmental protection. In this context, the government will tighten sanctions for pollution, and the case of aluminum contamination at the Semcorp factory in Debrecen represents a major test for the new strategy.

Local authorities have suspended the production license of the company following pollution discoveries.
