Producers and importers of batteries are facing new requirements imposed by Regulation (EU) 2023/1542, which targets safety, performance, carbon footprint, and product traceability.

This regulation, adopted in the context of the energy transition and the electrification of the economy, replaces the old Battery Directive and extends the responsibility of producers throughout the entire product life cycle. Global demand for batteries is increasing due to electric vehicles and the need for energy storage, and battery storage systems are becoming essential for managing renewable energy.

The new regulation introduces strict requirements, including a "Battery Passport," which ensures transparency and traceability. Compliance is not only a legal obligation but also an essential condition for competitiveness and access to international markets.

Batteries must be assessed from the perspective of safety, performance, carbon footprint, and recycled content, and non-compliance can have serious consequences for user safety and the reputation of manufacturers.
