Diana Buzoianu, the Minister of the Environment, announced that the Gravel Pits Radar, a system intended for monitoring aggregate extractions, could be launched by the middle of this year. The project includes effective controls necessary to verify the quantity of approved aggregates compared to that extracted and sold. Buzoianu emphasized that, although the former system was an electronic register, it did not have effective verification measures. She also mentioned that many gravel pits operate without authorization or with expired documents. Following recent inspections, a decrease in sanctions was observed, but performance criteria were established for inspectors, which led to an increase in the number of inspections conducted. The project is implemented by the National Administration "Apele Române" and will have a precise operating schedule after the completion of the pilot phase in 2025.
