In Oltenia, the production of wheat, corn, and sunflower has been severely affected, with corn areas impacted at a rate of 100%. The director of the Dolj Agricultural Directorate, Sorin Agapie, emphasizes the need for investments in research for the development of drought-resistant hybrids and irrigation. Additionally, climatologist Adriana Băcescu warns that climate change will bring climatic variability, with hot summers alternating with cold days and uneven precipitation. At the national level, over 11 million hectares are exposed to aridification, and 7.5 million are at risk of desertification, affecting areas such as Dobrogea and the south of the Romanian Plain.
