Severe drought alongside successive heatwaves and wildfires is affecting agriculture in several European countries, raising fears of price increases at the shelf. Farmers in southern and western Europe, including France, Greece, and Spain, are reporting significant losses in crops such as olives, cereals, and vegetables.

For example, in France, thousands of tons of vegetables have been compromised due to record temperatures and water shortages. At the same time, winemakers in renowned regions are facing an accelerated harvest, estimating a production 10% below last year's level. Olive oil producers in Greece, Italy, and Portugal are also facing difficulties, and prices could rise again in the fall.

The European Commission has revised downward forecasts for several crops, including sunflower and corn. In contrast, Romania is benefiting from favorable weather conditions, with optimistic estimates for the corn harvest, which could reach 8.2 million tons. However, analysts warn that Romania is not completely isolated from the effects of the European market, and food prices could be influenced by supply reductions from other countries.
