The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has announced emergency financial support of up to 333 lei per hectare, equivalent to approximately 63 euros, for farmers whose corn and sunflower crops were severely affected by the 2025 soil drought. The aid was approved by the Government at its meeting on September 18, 2026, and payments must be made by December 31, 2026, at the latest.

The maximum amount is granted for areas affected by 100% and decreases according to the extent of the damage. Land is eligible where losses ranged from 30% to 100%, inclusive, and were confirmed through official damage assessment reports.

The scheme has a total budget of 155.36 million lei, equivalent to 29.6 million euros. Half of the funds comes from non-reimbursable European financing through the European Agricultural Guarantee Fund, while the other half is provided from the state budget.

Payments will be processed by the Agency for Payments and Intervention in Agriculture, within the limits of the approved budget. The measure applies nationwide and aims to partially compensate for losses while supporting the continuation of agricultural activity. The scheme was adopted under the European regulation on aid for sectors affected by adverse weather events.
