The European Commission has approved a €134.8 million financial package for Romania and Spain following natural disasters that occurred in 2025. Romania will receive €14.3 million for damage caused by severe floods that affected the Central, South-Muntenia and North-East regions in late May and early June.
The European executive specifically mentions the damage caused at the Praid Salt Mine. The waters of the Corund River eroded part of the riverbed, damaged water infrastructure and caused extensive power outages. The funds will cover part of the costs of emergency operations and restoration work.
Romania requested support from the European Union Solidarity Fund in 2025 after the mobilization of the funds was approved by the European Parliament and the EU Council. The payment is expected in the coming period.
Spain will receive €120.5 million for drought, heatwaves and wildfires during the summer of 2025. Since 2002, the European fund has provided more than €11 billion for 150 disasters.
