The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR) has initiated a draft Government Decision proposing the granting of financial support of up to 63 euros/hectare for farmers whose corn and sunflower crops were affected by the pedological drought in 2025.

The project aims to compensate for income losses and ensure the necessary consumption for the population and animal feed. The European Commission has adopted a regulation allowing the allocation of a total aid of 56.6 million euros for Romania and other countries affected by adverse climatic phenomena. The resources needed for the implementation of the scheme are estimated at 155.362 million lei, coming from external funds and the state budget. Support will be granted based on the degree of damage, and the Agency for Payments and Intervention in Agriculture (APIA) will manage the implementation of the scheme.

Income losses for the affected areas are estimated between 210 and 890 euros/hectare, and the total affected area is 553,961 ha. MADR emphasizes the difficulties faced by farmers due to repeated weather phenomena, which endanger both the consumption of the population and animal production.
