At a conference, Dan Pascu, vice president of the Competition Council, stated that the decision to delay the liberalization of natural gas prices was made after a serious analysis. Although it was expected that prices would be re-liberalized, there is no imminent danger of a price explosion, according to the analysis of public offers from suppliers. Pascu emphasized that the competition authority supports re-liberalization but has not established a public communication strategy regarding the extension of the price regulation term. The government announced a new gas price capping mechanism, which will be administered until March 2027, to protect consumers from possible price increases. Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan explained that this measure is temporary, considering that in 2027 Romania will benefit from additional gas resources from the Black Sea, thus facilitating market liberalization. The price will remain stable throughout the year for household consumers and district heating plants, while for other activities there will no longer be a cap.
