ANPC has started inspections at fuel stations in the country, sanctioning operators who have increased prices after the legal hour.

The National Authority for Consumer Protection (ANPC) has initiated nationwide inspections at fuel stations, following recent price increases. These checks aim to ensure compliance with Law no. 162/2026, which regulates price changes during a crisis in the oil market. Inspectors are analyzing both the updates to prices and the commercial markups applied by gas stations. According to the law, stations can increase prices only once a day, before 12:00 PM, while discounts can be applied multiple times. The president of ANPC, Csaba Lajos Békési, announced that irregularities have been identified, including price increases after the legal hour, and operators risk fines of up to 100,000 lei. ANPC continues inspections to ensure transparency and fairness in setting fuel prices, thus protecting consumers from abusive commercial practices.
