Inspectors from the National Authority for Consumer Protection (ANPC) imposed fines exceeding 4.8 million lei following nationwide inspections conducted between September 28 and October 2, 2026, to check food and non-food products and the services provided to consumers.
In total, 1,030 contraventional fines and 804 warnings were issued. Inspectors temporarily halted the sale of products worth more than one million lei and ordered the permanent withdrawal of non-compliant products worth more than 250,000 lei. In addition, 15 economic operators may no longer provide services until the deficiencies are remedied.
The irregularities discovered included unhygienic food areas, moldy plant products, meat with bloody fluid inside the packaging and fish with heavy ice deposits. Food stored at inappropriate temperatures was also found.
The inspections also revealed worn equipment and utensils with rust and food residues, damaged refrigeration units and products lacking the information required for traceability. In the case of some textile products, the labels did not include Romanian translations.
