ANPC inspected more than 1,600 operators and issued fines totaling nearly 4 million lei

Commissioners from the National Authority for Consumer Protection inspected more than 1,600 economic operators as part of actions concerning product safety, compliance with food legislation and the conditions under which services were provided. The inspections uncovered numerous irregularities, and ANPC ordered fines and measures to protect consumers.

The authority issued 1,102 fines totaling more than 3.98 million lei and 606 warnings. Non-compliant products worth approximately 115,000 lei were permanently withdrawn from sale, while other products worth 2.55 million lei were temporarily removed pending the correction of deficiencies. In the case of eight operators, the provision of services was suspended.

The problems identified included incomplete labels or labels not properly translated into Romanian, as well as missing warnings and information about the composition, manufacturer, distributor or country of origin. Commissioners found expired, deteriorated or non-compliant products, along with serious hygiene and storage deficiencies: rusty equipment, damaged flooring, unsuitable utensils, incorrect temperatures and traces of mold in food preparation areas.

Services were also found to be provided in unauthorized premises. In addition, some merchants presented products as domestic without holding the required producer certificate.
