Eurostar has announced a 2 billion euro agreement with Alstom for the delivery of 30 double-decker trains, which will operate on its routes between London, Paris, Brussels, and Amsterdam. The trains, named Eurostar Celestia, will be built in France and will be delivered starting in January 2031, with commercial services planned for May 2031. Compared to the current fleet, the new trains will offer 20% more seats, although they will not have double the number of seats due to the need for space for stairs. Eurostar aims to increase its annual passenger numbers from 19.5 million to 30 million and will expand direct routes to Frankfurt and Geneva. CEO Gwendoline Cazenave emphasized that the new fleet will provide an improved experience, with more space and facilities for bicycles and wheelchair users.
