The Brașov City Hall announced that it has submitted a funding request for the establishment of a metropolitan train, with the requested amount being approximately 1.5 billion lei (over 230 million euros). The request was made by the Transport Association, in partnership with the municipality and other institutional partners, and represents the largest investment with non-reimbursable European funds in the county.

The project includes the purchase of battery trains, the construction of railways and overpasses, with a co-financing of 2% from local authorities. The metropolitan train will connect Brașov with the localities in the metropolitan area, industrial zones, and the Brașov-Ghimbav International Airport, through a modern public transport system. The project anticipates a traffic of over 7,500 passengers per day by 2030, including three diametrical lines and 24 stopping points.
