The Municipality of Bucharest could receive a loan of up to 350 million euros from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to modernize public transport. The financing is part of a program estimated at 1.65 billion euros, supported by European funds and loans from the EBRD and the European Investment Bank (EIB).

The final decision is expected to be made by the EBRD board at the beginning of December. If approved, the loan will be granted in several tranches and will co-finance the project promoted by General Mayor Ciprian Ciucu.

The plan includes modernizing the tram network, extending transport lines along the Prelungirea Ghencea corridor, and purchasing trolleybuses. The investments aim to increase public transport capacity and improve services for passengers.

The program is part of efforts to modernize and make the transport infrastructure in the Capital more environmentally friendly. Authorities estimate that the investments could help reduce the environmental impact and improve residents’ quality of life. However, approval of the financing depends on the decision of the EBRD board.
