The Ministry of Environment, Waters and Forests has launched the first guide for the occupation and use of beaches on the Romanian coastline, developed by the Order of Architects of Romania. This document introduces uniform rules for organizing beach space, public access, and the types of permitted arrangements, after a period in which the coastline has developed without a coherent framework.
The guide stipulates that a continuous zone of contact with the water must remain free, and sunbeds and umbrellas cannot occupy more than 70% of the rented area. Public access is central, with continuous pedestrian pathways and solutions for people with reduced mobility. Interventions on the beach must be removable, and the materials used must respect aesthetic and architectural quality. The guide covers seven pilot areas, and the Minister of Environment, Diana Buzoianu, emphasized the importance of this document as a first step towards organizing the coastline. Direct interventions on the ground for more efficient organization will follow.
