The Giurgiu-Ruse Bridge will be closed to traffic on March 12, between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM, due to emergency repairs to the road surface, according to the Bulgarian Road Infrastructure Agency. The works target the traffic lane that has not undergone major repairs. The Bulgarian section of the bridge, which is 1,057 meters long, will undergo major repairs in stages, starting from June 10, 2024.
Currently, work is being completed on a 320-meter section of the lane towards Bulgaria. Due to heavy traffic, the pavement has been compromised, and repairs are necessary for traffic safety. It is estimated that this will be the last emergency repair, and the lane will be completed in the first week of April. During the closure, drivers can use alternative routes, such as the I-1 Sofia - Vidin road and the Vidin-Calafat Bridge. Trucks can use parking areas in the regions of Ruse, Veliko Tarnovo, Yambol, and Haskovo.
